The Vlassides winery started producing its first wines in the summer of 1998, just a few months after its owner Sophocles Vlassides finished his studies at the Davis University of California, where he studied Oenology.
In 2012 the Vlassides Winery moved to a 50 acres vineyard, called Koloni, which is situated near Vouni village and includes a number of linear vineyards. The modern facilities and the new equipment of this winery have made the production of wine an easier and more efficient procees, and they have also contributed in the improvement of the quality of the wine, as well as the increase of the overall production, which reaches the number of 120 000 bottles of wine annually. Vlassides Winery currently produces wine mostly from the grape varieties Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, as well as the white varieties Sauvignon Blanc and Xynisteri, which are cultivated in 160 acres of proprietary and collaborating vineyards. The Vlassides winery’s commitment to quality has been recognized in a range of wine competitions. The most notable medal is the Gold Medal for “Vlassides Shiraz 2003 (12 months oaked) at the Brussels Wine Competition in 2006.
